Pigeon Art Workshops

Based in London. Available to work in these Local Authorities

London. Available to work in all local authorities.

Pigeon Art Workshops is a small team of artist/teachers who work in schools and companies providing workshops for large and small projects, indoor and outdoor installations, permanent and temporary work. We were established in 1999 and have a wealth of experience with children from 3-11 years, teachers and educators and staff team building days with art as a focus. We cover all media including wood and metal for larger, more permanent projects. We believe our experience and what we offer is unique.

We have been established since 1999, with teaching skills and our artists' own talents as the starting point for our work. We take these ideas into schools and adapt them to working with the children and staff. We have also run corporate days on this same basis, the most recent being with the Terence Higgins' trust on one of their team building days.

We believe that what we offer is unique in that all of our team are able to work in all media not just in their own specialist field. We work in every media as the job requires, from printmaking to wood, textiles to metalwork. Our understanding of how schools and the curriculum work, and our ability to work with whole classes of children as well as small groups alongside our commitment to a 'big and different' art experience for the individuals we work with is at the heart of our approach.

We work in the classrooms in pairs alongside the teacher and on our staff training days we work as a team of approximately three, giving the maximum opportunity for everyone to benefit from individual support. We are a team that plans and prepares and shares ideas together rather than individuals working for a larger body. We don't work to a standard repertoire - every job we undertake is seen as indiviual to the body that has booked us.

Resources provided We provide all resources, included in the price charged to the school.
Resources required We negotiate with each school individually and work where we are able, depending on the project we are are working on.
Experience with disabled young people Two of our team have experience in special needs education as teachers- one with adults and one with 3 - 19 yr olds.

CRB Disclosure

All personnel (and freelancers/artists) within the organisation who work directly with children and young people have had either a Standard or Enhanced Disclosure check within the last three years and can provide evidence of this on request.

CRB checks DO NOT relieve you from your child protection responsibilities and duty of care towards children and young people.

A criminal record shown on a disclosure does not prevent an artist appearing in the Directory, unless it is a schedule One offence under the Children and Young Person’s Act 1933. It is your responsibility to make adequate checks before employing LONSAS Associates and to implement a sufficient child protection policy. Click here for further information.

We have an in depth portfolio on our website that demonstrates the range of our work. The most recent exhibitions are also there with pictures to highlight the main details.

Project 1

Summer 2007.
Mural project - eight murals on the outdoor walls of a school in Croydon. Each mural measured approximately 5' square, on a floral theme. The whole school worked on the project from the special needs nursery through to year 6.

Project 2

March 2008: Forthcoming:
Carnival masks for Carribean week in a school in Market Risborough, Bucks. Each class to work on the project for a performance/carnival at the end of the week.

Princes Risborough Primary school

Briony and two colleagues from Pigeon Workshops came to our school for two days in March to work with 5 classes of children from Foundation Stage and Key Stage One. They worked with the children to complete Caribbean carnival masks for a cultural themed week that we were having at the time. The work was of a high standard and the children thoroughly enjoyed the workshops. Briony and her colleagues were very good with the children and were very organised, ensuring all resources were provided and tidying up after each workshop.

Barnet Homes

I wanted to say thank you for working with the children on the amazing mural. We were very pleased with Lydia and your professionalism, you made the children very welcome and also gave them the opportunity to put their own stamp on it without being too overpowering but still managed to make the mural look very good. We are very pleased with the service provided and look forward to working with you again soon.
